The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world based on total area, and it's considered as a shopping festival for shoppers .It is an ideal destination for brands and shopping lovers. Dubai Mall is part of the 20 billion dollar Dubai Downtown complex.and includes 1,200 shops. The Mall opened on 8 May 2009, after twice delayed.
The Dubai Mall recorded 61,000 tickets sold for the Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre in the first five days, following its opening. and it hosted over 37 million visitors in 2009, and attracts more than 750,000 visitors every week. while in 2010 it hosted 47 million, and saw footfall increase by around 27 percent over 2009, despite the economic crisis. The mall has won five differents awards – for Best Retail Development Scheme and Best Use of Lighting in a Retail Environment and Best Art Direction, Graphic Design, Silver award for Best 4-colour B2B Brochure, and a Judges Special Recognition award. In addition are the adjoining 5-star premium hotel, The Address Dubai Mall with 244 rooms and 449 serviced residences, and 14,000 undercover car park spaces spread across three levels. More than 70 signature stores in its dedicated Fashion Avenue. Galeries Lafayette, France’s leading lifestyle retailer and Bloomingdale’s, America’s leading department store, are the anchor stores of the mall and marks the first time both retailers are opening stores in the Middle East region.
The Souk is contain many gold souks, its distinctive shopping precinct with wide walkways, and featuring jewellery shops, accessory outlets, traditional Arab clothing and handicraft stores,and many others.
The Village is a popular shopping area in Dubai Mall , it offers a relaxed and informal shopping experience. Featuring a fully retractable roof, The Village is open during winter months enabling visitors to have a true outdoor feel.
A centerpiece of the mall is Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, one of the largest aquariums in the world. Dubai Aquarium illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor and showcases one of the most diverse collections of marine animals worldwide. It was developed and operated by Oceanis Australia Group, having one of the world's largest Acrylic Panel. Its 750 mm thick acrylic and viewing panel can withstand pr
essure of 10 million litres of water used in the aquarium, but its transparency gives visitors clear views of over 33,000 marine animals on display. A special (lunar-cyclic) lighting system changes the ambience of the tank depending on the time of day. Underwater Zoo is located above the aquarium, and provides an interactive approach to educating children and visitors on the ecology and sustainability of marine life.
The Dubai Ice Rink multi-purpose venue, uses refrigeration plant technology by developing 1.5 inches (38 mm) of ice bed. Dubai Ice Rink can host international, competition-standard events. with a capacity of up to 2,000 guests, Dubai Ice Rink is a family-oriented attraction open to the general public, with regular ‘learn to skate’ programs taking place. when converted into a multi-functional hall with a multimedia system including a 20 m × 10 m LED screen.
In December 2012, Emaar Properties have announced the completion of the Metro Link which is a 820 m long elevated, air-conditioned footbridge that connects Burj Khalifa/The Dubai Mall Metro Station to the Dubai Mall.
